How to play

Get your microphone ready to record.

Find the message you see, check the input, and try a short microphone check before performing.

“No microphone was found”

This message usually means the browser could not find an available audio input. A device that plays sound is not necessarily a device that records sound. Some desktops and monitors have speakers but no microphone.

  1. Connect a USB microphone, webcam microphone, or a headset that supports audio input.
  2. On a Mac, open System Settings → Sound → Input and select the device. On Windows, open Settings → System → Sound and check the input device.
  3. Speak and check whether the operating system’s input meter responds. If no input is listed there, fix the connection or device setup first.
  4. Return to the game, reload if needed, and choose Check microphone. Select the correct input after granting access.

See Apple’s input-device guide for Mac settings.

“Microphone access is blocked”

Allow microphone access for https://voiceovergame.online in Chrome or Edge’s site permissions. If you previously blocked access, open the site controls beside the address bar and change the microphone permission, then reload and try again.

Also check that the operating system permits the browser to use the microphone. On macOS this is under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone. On Windows, check Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone, including access for desktop apps. Managed school or work devices may have administrator controls.

Chrome’s official camera and microphone guide explains browser permission and input selection. An embedded browser may have different microphone support; try the site directly in a supported browser.

“Your microphone is busy”

Another application, a driver, or the operating system may be preventing the browser from reading the device. Close other recording tools or calls that use the input, reconnect the device, and try Check microphone again.

If it still fails, confirm that the microphone works in an operating-system recording app. Reopen the browser after changing the device settings. A failed recording attempt leaves an earlier saved take available.

The recording is silent or too quiet

Select the intended microphone rather than an unused input. Check a hardware mute switch, move closer, and raise the operating-system input level if necessary. Speak normally while watching the microphone-check meter.

Wear headphones so the game’s playback does not enter your take. The game rejects recordings with no clear signal, but that check does not certify speech quality. Listen back to check that your actual words, rather than only background noise, are audible.

Explore the scene while you sort it out

You can hear the original and try an original-voice preview without microphone capture. The original voice is labeled as a preview; it is not a recording of you. Return to the scene later to replace it with your own voice.

Microphone access starts only after you choose Record or start a microphone check. Close the check to stop listening. The check itself does not save a take.

Questions & answers

Does microphone access require HTTPS?

Browser microphone capture requires a secure context. Open the production site at https://voiceovergame.online, then grant microphone permission when you choose Record or Check microphone.

Will signing in fix a missing microphone?

No. Microphone capture depends on the input device, browser support, and permissions. You can record as a guest; an account does not add an audio input.
