Voice acting practice, one line at a time.
Use short scenes to work on intention, timing, and listening without needing a long script.
Cosmos Laundromat · Half a minute Start with one line and two intentions
Open Tears of Steel: I know and choose Thom. Listen to Celia’s accusation, then deliver the reply as an honest admission. Record a second version as if you wish the conversation would end.
Ask whether the meaning changed without changing the words. Review the first and last sounds, the pause before the reply, and how much tension you put into the phrase. A quiet performance can be expressive; it still needs to be audible.
Try a comic exchange with clear turns
In Half a minute, Victor tries to make his offer sound reasonable while Franck negotiates. Choose Franck and keep the first response skeptical. Give the final agreement a different energy: reluctant, impatient, or almost amused.
Leave a small pause where the picture and cue allow it. Avoid inserting a long pause that pushes the ending outside the recording window. Replay the whole exchange to judge whether the answer still responds naturally to Victor.
Keep a character consistent across several lines
Choose Sintel in The search. Decide how tired she is and how strongly she wants to find her friend. Keep that intention through the thank-you, the explanation, and the final answer.
Record each line separately, then review the full scene. Listen for abrupt changes in distance from the mic, loudness, or character tone. Retake only the line that breaks the continuity.
Use a short review checklist
- Are every word and the end of the phrase audible?
- Does the answer react to the previous character?
- Is the intention clear without exaggerated volume?
- Does the take fit its cue without a rushed ending?
- Does the character sound consistent across the scene?

Questions & answers
Do I need professional recording equipment?
No. A working microphone and a supported browser are enough to try the exercises. Headphones and a quiet space help you hear the delivery and reduce playback leaking into your take.
Is there an automatic voice acting grade?
No. These exercises use self-review and playback. They do not provide an AI grade, professional certification, or a guarantee of performance improvement.
